Alrighty my list of ideas (happy to hear suggestions) idea is pretty simple:
The world of Elyisia (stolen from the Elysian fields myth wise if you're wondering).
I'm thinking late roman or greek setting in terms of architecture.
Weapons and armor we can fudge a bit, mish-mash of cultures.
The city setting I'm thinking a large twin volcanic islands, kinda Pompei vibe only no eruption it'll be the location of the Coliseum allowing for the participation of a wide variety of beasts, water based, fire based (access to lava fields.) Cultivated areas to accommodate various animals and beasts, swamps lagoons, the taller volcano perhaps goes high enough to accumulate some snow maybe a few plateaus. Caves etc... Bigass statue like the Colossus of Rhodes.
Maybe a pantheon of gods, perhaps we use Zeus and the bunch in a sort of strangereal. Thinking maybe certain types of beast fall under one of these gods and the Tamer-Clan would worship that god or see them as a patron. Maybe they even created this island to enjoy the spectacle?
The matches are arranged days in advance, or rather the opponents are granted invitation to monthly tournaments and bouts are 'negotiated'.
Beasts should be divided into classes, although some beasts can cross classes but must adhere to class rules.
Water: beasts that are capable of fighting underwater have an arena in the port and perhaps viewed from underwater caverns kept dry by magic or godly power. Escaping out of the water to dry land or above water is off limits.
Sky: pure aerial battles held at Cliffside over the water, staying on the ground for too long is treated like a count out.
Land: mainly held in the central coliseum in which flight capable beasts taking part cannot attack from an airborne position or fly above the rim of coliseum.
Hunts: Take place in the forests and swamps, this is watched from above, beasts hunting one another neither beast is allowed to escape above the trees.
Hybrid matches: a coliseum built surrounded by a deep pool, the rules are much looser in these matches.
aside from that there are size handi-caps. A Warg versus a hydra is hardly a fair fight so some Clans opt to join forces to even the odds.
That's all I've got so far so please do include your opinions.
