Interesting how well throwing out ideas creates an explosion of interest lol
But yeah i imagine the team will have specializations also maybe different loadouts of weapons based on missions.

Perhaps I could do heavy weapons, basically mobile artillery mixed with machine guns and all that fun stuff.

I think we should create a system od archetypes like in they rid in anthem I feel like like this would give us more of team dynamic to work with.

I think we should create a system od archetypes like in they rid in anthem I feel like like this would give us more of team dynamic to work with. Lets say that types of mechs are numerous as opposed to a standard set of frames. Though i im thinking that there are limitations based on size of said mechs. Id think these mech are between 20-30ft tall That said: Light:flight capable, more mobile but retains bare minimum in terms of weapons and equipment for mobility. Medium: -unable to sustain flight but can jump and 'skate' (slide along the ground) -greater choice of weapons -can choose more or less armour in favour of heavier weapons. Heavy: -cannot jump or fly can still skate -can use both heavy armour plating and weapons within reason. -only unit that can support an artillery or long range missile frame.

Im also thinking close quarters weapons are standard issue due to ammo not being unlimited.
Not sure if energy weapons will be a thing either since its not very cost effective and in a near apocalyptic world such tech would be too valuable to risk losing in the field.
Also im definitely going to be using a pilot/mechanic build. Possibly in control of a drop ship, supplies deployment mobile base for repairs. Perhaps the team stays out in the field fir extended missions.

I might actually make a duo character. Twin brothers and/or sisters style. One a Medium Flametroop, the other a Light CQC Specialist

Will the game be centered only along the mechs and the fights or do the pilots also matter?

Pilots are the characters after all. Its a complete world. Between missions they are a team and a crew of sorts. Chatting and what not.

Maybe I'll do a pilot using a scavenged mech, defending a settlement near the wasteland. He joins them since he knows the area well, and it'll make his life easier if they are successful in their mission.

During a mission through an infected, abandoned city to contain the spread scanners pick up a huge unknown anamoly. It mutated with lost but dormant energy tech and turned into a very big necro-mech with the ability to use energy-based attacks. Team ordered to take it down upon it's discovery and recover the tech or destroy it. That kind of abomination cannot leave the quarantine area.

So some Necro mechs evolve?

Yep. First discovery of it's kind and it disturbs the team and HQ

That or the parasites are capable of making their own advances tech. That's scarier than it simply evolving, the fact that they may outpace humanity in terms of tech will mean the end of the human race.

The realisation that this isn't some sort of infection that is spreading, but a sentient hivemind being capable of war.
Scavenging tech from the cities they annihilate and integrate into it

Also, my pilots: Jayna and Alice. Twin sisters piloting two very different mechs with separate roles. Jayna operates a heavy frame flametrooper mech named 'Firefly' equipped with all sorts of ordnance to clear out hordes and hives. Twin flamers, incendiary grenade launcher and armour piercing rockets. Alice takes control of a quadrupedal light frame named 'Hound'. Smaller than most mechs even for a light frame, only three or four times the size of a man. Equipped for close quarter combat with a stealth field, chain-blade and swivel shotgun on the back while the Hound's claws can be super heated. Jayna is happy go lucky and brazen with all the explosives and fire. Alice is more professional and level-headed. Their personalities balance each other out. The easiest way to tell them apart is Alice has tattoos. Jayna and Alice: Firebug: Hound:

Fun design indeed. Ill go with Dekker Former Marshall pilot but due to loss of limbs is required to stay out of direct combat also ships engineer and Dropship pilot. Provides airsupport resupply and field repair. Flies a VTOL capable of airlifting 2-3 heavy mechs. And on occasion flies the main Camp carrier.

So anyone have any questions so far? Need any help with anything character wise? Ill probably spend some time figuring out how society functions in this little world and write it down for everyone. Im open to suggestions by the by.

I like my OC being from the wasteland. Maybe it's very tribalistic out there as they have to constantly fight over resources and the necros, working together when they absolutely need to. Their could be cities like Attack on Titan style. Giant well defended walls that's were the umbrella Corp is and the rest of the squad.

Factions of survivors trapped within quarantined areas. Fighting to survive against being overrun and scavenge scarce supplies. Some objectives that the team gets are tasked with supply drops for these surviving settlements, but they aren't as high priority as fighting the horde or recovering tech and data.

Id imagine these outposts are well defended too as outposts to transport supplies ammunition. But the scavengers trade in parts etc... for teams Like the Marshals to do their jobs far from the Fortress cities. Perhaps Marshals are seen like Ace Pilots. Callsigns and have reputations, radio and tv broadcasts to boost morale with the teams more heroic feats. But they wouldnt be the only team either.
And within the cities maybe a caste system is in place and Marshal pilots are like nobility like knights of old.

Also how long has this been going on i wonder? 2 generations 3?
Perhaps it was the only reason the last war ended?

I say Generation 3. The horde of Necro-mechs and such began in Generation 2 and so far, it has only be contained and yet to be eradicated completely.
We need an official name for the infection too

Individual necro-mechs vould be called Wrecks. The Dullahan virus/plague/parasite?(named for a headless knight that still fights) a techno organic virus that uses human brain as a computer to run and repair the mechanized weapons.

Dullahan and Wrecks works.
The giant mutated Necro-tech worm the team will encounter could be the first sentient parasite the Marshalls have ever encountered too. Shows a small amount of intelligence rather than just blindly attacking anything that isn't Dullahan.
The first piece of evidence that the parasite is evolving.

Interesting indeed. Eventually they may come across skilled knight like Dullahan.

The Dullahan Knights are a grotesque combination of walker mech and fleshy parasite. They are able to make use of any weaponry and tech they merged into. But their focus is trying to rip the pilots out of their mechs and infecting them whenever the opportunity arises.
