No, I agree; nuclear power would definitely be OP. Potent spell-casting will be available at the more powered levels with the strength of the demons, and the more powerful witches can use dimensional magic and reality warp; bending and altering laws of physics and nature rather than outright breaking them, as you said. The more powerful you become, the more effectively you can bend and alter them and on a larger scale as well.
It depends what kind of supernatural beings you're talking about. There'll be different classifications for sure, but there's a great deal of different supernatural beings. Werewolves? Spirits and ghosts? Mythological creatures?
And the Knights of Solomon do not draw magic from any particular source, since they were formed in order to guard and imprison the demons, making sure that they would never escape and imprisoning them again should they succeed. Since their magic is technically non-existent, I like to think that they have learned and developed weapons and offensive/defensive measures that negate or nullify the use of magic since they can't actually use it themselves. Something similar to the dampening collar Ms. Barbas made for Paradox in the PI RP, but different. They would have drawn on magic from somewhere, but they aren't descended from magical beings nor do they have a natural affinity for it because of their bloodline, so their magic is unorthodox in the way that technically it isn't even magic at all; just a nullifying use of 'magic' that they have developed themselves to use.

Exactly!
And with 'groups' of witches the power they can draw on together makes it more potent but unwieldy unless they are extremely good at working together. Think of instruments in an orchestra, if their out of tune the whole ensemble is ruined ei) spell doesn't work.
Demons would be at the top of this food-chain, considering many weren't considered demons until Christianity came into play many were seen as gods, kings, queens, pharaohs, myths and monsters, so I'm thinking that the larger greek beasts would've been more demons natural form than anything, Dragons, Chimera, hydra, ect... SO what I'm wondering where the others fall in the smaller humanoid monsters, would they have been creations of these demons or naturally occurring? Could they have been subordinates? And that also opens up the question, are there different types of Demons? And what 'classifications' would they fall under?
I was thinking if they have any power at all it would be stolen directly from the creatures they hunt. Like being in the proximity of these creatures demons and witches, or maybe harvested. So every ounce of magic or enchantment was stolen or coerced from magical creatures and prisoners.

Amplifying their power works well; they could either cast the spells together to increase the base strength of the effect, or they could repeat the spell and add their effect to the original effect after the fact, thereby increasing the original strength of the spell.
I like the idea of a whole other plane of existence that houses all of the demons and creatures as original inhabitants; an alternate world where all of these creatures and demons exist as normal rather than mythological creatures. Because of this, they will have been created by similar forces; a similar process to the prime world, only all of the creatures and the demons have simply existed since the beginning, and so they live with each other in a sense as naturally occurring beings. Demons would be indeed at the top of the food chain, but to them, a chimera or a dragon or basilisk or a hydra would be as regular as a tiger or an elephant or a cow etc..
And what were you thinking for the different types of demons? Our demons would rule as the most powerful, but lesser demons could exist as well; potentially as a variation or an 'evolution' of sorts that went down a different path of sorts, or simply existed that way.
That makes some sense; hoarding magical potency from the creatures they guard and imprison allows them to counteract their magic to a degree; they'll need a hell of a lot of magic to take down the demons, but it could make for an interesting battle with the witches. Perhaps when they hoard the magic from a certain demon, that magic and its effects are inherent to that demon i.e. if they had harvested magic from Astaroth and tried to use it to defeat Sitri, it wouldn't do jack shit because the source is incompatible with the magic they are trying to defeat. It'd be like trying to open a door with the wrong key, so to speak. Thoughts?

That would be interesting indeed. A parallel world, that humans would call heaven/hell/limbo, lets say demons simply refer to it as 'the place between' and when someone asks 'between what?' they would answer 'Everything'. Perhaps its a nexus of dimensions and the one that the Demons prefer is the one with humans in it, the 'hosts' make it more fun. From your description Demons could have brought those monsters over maybe kept some as pets Perhaps Demons become more powerful with age, instead of evolving through generation , they evolve over time. The older the demon the more power they have, from the lowest form 'devil' which is a step above monster that has become self aware and on and upward the higher forms are demon Princes and Kings. but this is just a random thought. c Perhaps the old ley lines and convergeance sights are where they attained the right magic to use against them in the first place. The only advantage that hey was that the Knights were relatively unknown at the time. And as per the 'combination' magic system seems to work but lets say the 'hosts' are vulnerable to conventional magic or a helluva alot of brute force but you still have to stop the demon's essense. Its why the Knights sealed them rather than killed them... OR maybe another Demon helped them wanting the world to themselves, someone that could crack the combination to several of the 72 demons to seal them away.

Do you think it could've been possible for this parallel world to open on occasion? If so I wonder if there's any basis for specific stories being real in this world's universe. Like Dante's Inferno, The story of Izanagi, and Orpheus.

I like the idea of the human world providing a sense of recreation; perhaps since they themselves have become so integrated with human history, they consider it entertainment in the sense that it allows them an escape into who they are not; it both allows them to reinvent themselves for fun over and over again throughout history, and also revel in their legendary and mythological status in the human world. I think Sitri would like the idea of being able to live unlimited lives throughout history in a sense; it could be an invigorating challenge to their creativity. Perhaps they brought some of the creatures over briefly for fun, deliberately integrating them into mythical history.
Perhaps that did happen, but since it was so long ago, they have set hierarchies in that sense of Kings and Princes and Dukes, and then there's the regular demons and the lesser demons; there'd only be 72 of the 'higher' demons, but the number of 'lower' demons would be countless in number, making the higher demons extremely rare; by extension, being a higher demon would mean that they were created first, and their power would far surpass that of any of the lesser demons. Perhaps the higher demons have indicative tattoos or sigils that reveal their superiority, or the higher demons would have an automatic aura about them that makes those near them instinctively know of their superiority. Either way, I like the idea of the higher demons being greatly feared and respected by the lesser demons almost instinctively, as if that fear and reverence is inherent to their very being.
I like the idea of the Knights of Solomon being a secret, yet very powerful organisation that has existed for perhaps millennia; similar to the Knights Templar or the Assassin Order in Assassin's Creed. Using the ley lines and points of convergence sounds like it would be effective; it would make it much more symbolic for sure.
I also like the idea of the host bodies for the demons being inherently superior to regular humans by a substantial amount in every way, and able to utilise and manipulate magic on a much more powerful and intricate level than the most powerful of human witches, so it requires a great deal of power in order to shackle them. For example, if you manage to catch them off guard, and you have enough of their magic to use against them and you act quickly, you could utilise a hypothetical spell that renders them unable to shift forms or disoriented; they'd have to keep hammering away at it until they were defeated. It would be singularly difficult to defeat a demon, and it requires multiple of the most experienced and powerful soldiers along with enough magical essence and knowledge of how to wield it to take them down. Possibly; thoughts?

Yeah I think a few mortals had traversed into ‘The Place Between’ and return but I doubt they did it on their own. And yep the human world is a beloved playground for demons and to be robbed of it was likely a great unforgivable insult. So that’ll be the basis of our story. There are actually sigils for each of the 72, I’ll post it. But demon should be able to tell how powerful eachother are within proximity. But the 72 would have a very particular feeling to them, like the cold feeling of numb shock when someone breaks a finger but doesn’t feel it. The queasy panic and each of the big ones have a very specific sensation to go with it, a smell, a sound, a hallucination. Say if Asteroth is near, one can feel the chill scales of a boa constrict around their body or throat and the subtle hiss barely out of earshot. Lets say the 72 either have a tattoo or wear something with their symbol on it. CLICK HERE FOR BIGGERYeah, they’d have to be smart and underhanded to overcome much more powerful creatures learning how to hide. But sometimes surviving because some demons would find them very entertaining though still this organization would be quite impressive. And again agreed, the host body would be exceptionally strong, but it would depend on the demon. The abilities would be drastically different. Asteroth for example was baited into the tunnels under rome and it was caved in that was used to stall the Demon until Asteroth was ‘exorcised’ after that point to seal a demon THAT specific demon’s Convergence point has to be sealed ‘after’ the exercism or Asteroth would’ve had his followers prepare another host ei) worthy human sacrifice. (this is how I think it should go down) Asteroth being a wargod at the time expected a straightfrward honorable fight.

That would likely be an effective sensation to highlight the 72's power; I like the idea of such a trigger being ultimately subconscious and involuntary in nature, making it all the more insidious as people cannot stop it from happening and they aren't entirely sure why they are feeling that way, since it's a subconscious nagging in the back of their mind, like a gut instinct you may feel that screams at you to get out of a place and never look back, even though you have seen no evidence to suggest that that place would do you any harm. I like subconscious triggers; they're so interesting.
For Sitri, I like the idea of the aura being somewhat insidious in nature. I like the idea of when Sitri is near, one feels a deep sense of paranoia and an unsettling feeling that they are being watched by creatures or forces that they cannot detect. Perhaps their skin starts to itch in fear and they tend to hallucinate faint voices in their heads, faint enough that they aren't even sure if they are hearing them or not. That'd be awesome.
And are you suggesting that the host bodies are chosen through some ritual form of human sacrifice for Astaroth? Sitri is known as a shapeshifter, so I had envisioned them being able to change their human form at will; perhaps exhibiting pheromones to make them that much more charming and alluring to the ones they are around, or even being of a somewhat changeable state and only having the base human outlines rather than defined features; their particular magic will make the brain of whomever they are around automatically fill in the blanks so that they appear optimally attractive to all subconsciously. There would be some defining features to avoid confusion, such as eye colour, hair colour, height, weight etc., but the humans brain automatically and subconsciously fills in the blanks without them even knowing.
Potentially, you know. What were you thinking in terms of host bodies, though?

Precisely! Though I imagine that with a little effort a demon can suppress or enchance this feeling, to the point possibly od scaring a weak human nigh unto death. This ability alone could be very useful in a wide variety of ways. Asteroth would use it in an interogation like method leveraging that strangling feeling little by little.
As for host bodies, I’m going to say that Demons may have preferences and ‘soft requirements’. Asteroth would need a body to be prepared or atleast slowly ease his power into it or risk destroying it by going full dragon right off the bat which is rough on a human form and burns out the host before acclimating not too mention Asteroth despises taking on that hideous form (an affront to his vanity). If prepared there would be sealing sigils that slowly degrade letting the host body become accustomed to the Demon’s power. Sure any demon can take any body but its condition and the demons’ abilities should be taken into account. Sitri wouldn’t have nearly as much trouble being more maleable than others.
SO some hosts are changed to ‘fit’ better, like tailoring a suit or made to ‘grow into’.

Wonder if in this scenario, when a demon is attempting to take over a human being they can start suffering things like hauntings or sleep paralysis.

Post by Snoe on Dec 18, 2016 1:22:01 GMT
depends on the demon. That feeling can simply come from them being nearby, that's the 'aura' they put out. It takes very little effort for a demon to take a host but its like trying to put on a paper suit.

Dude, you can contribute if you want to join in. I'm sure the Great and Powerful Bunny would appreciate the input.
And I was thinking that other demons and creatures that know of their existence will feel that deep paranoia, but with those that do not know and those they want to shield from such triggers, they can alter it and mould it; perhaps mould it to make the subject less likely to notice flaws in what they say or more likely to accept what they do as a whole, as in subconsciously overlooking things they would have previously picked up on or something similar.
And I like the idea that Sitri can shapeshifter into different bodies easily, but more believable and more intricate hosts take longer to create; longer to define the details of their appearance, to increase the power capacity and power/magic output threshold of said host, making the host more stable similar to breaking in new clothing etc.. A hastily prepared host won't be as effective as a host that was shown 'care', so to speak.

Yep, I welcome much input, notice that so far I have said 'no' to any suggestions, I merely incorporate lol
SO raz if you want in feel free to join, pick a demon read up on him/her/it, I can help too I've been perusing this demon list off and on for years so I know it well and can help pick a suitable beasty for ya.
And agreed, a 'tailored' host is much more powerful than just one grabbed. Asteroth's host is always prepared for physical output, athletes actors models warriors etc..

I might have to do just that. I have four weeks off and feel a break from the normal RPs might refresh my interest in them.
So what is the aim of this relay? I've been hearing a lot about these demons and how they are capable of taking on the human form. Now there's been mention to a holy order of warriors going against these demons. Though surely they would've failed had it been just them, so my question is, are angelic beings also at play in this world?
|
|
|
Post by Alexodia on Dec 18, 2016 2:10:13 GMT
Why surely? Perhaps you underestimate their capabilities; magic clearly exists, and they have existed for millennia after all. A human order taking on much more powerful enemies throughout history is an established fantasy trope.

Demons are the names of 'old gods'. Asteroth is actually a very very old deity having gone by many names. So essentially 'Demons' as a whole are the angels gods heros and kings of history. And they don't ALL get along, immortal beings use earth as a playground and they aren't united so I'm thinking another Demon helped seal them away. I was thinking either Beelzebub (the Lord of Lies and comparably powerful to Lucifer himself) or Andras (a demon known to create discord)
I'm thinking the aim is different depending on the Demon, Asteroth is angry and wants to find out 'who and how' he was sealed.

True but almost as equally as established in fantasy is how powerful orders have a deity or benevolent entity on their side. But my my, this is interesting. They are capable of at least attempting to hold the line against these otherworldly creatures.
Also, I think I've found my demon. Alloces. After a brief googling I have to admit he's the one I'm leaning towards.

Alloces, the knight and fallen angel, wields a lance that grows and shrinks in length. Interesting choice.
The Knights of Solomon fight the good fight and are a smart bunch of people, though I'd refrain from saying either side is 'good' or evil. They have motives and goals.

Alloces leaves alot up in the air, plenty of customization to be had lol
SO tell us your version of Allo? before we get into the nitty gritty we should know more because these demons have spent millenia with one another so they know eachother well.

A lance that grows and shrinks. I could make a joke, but I won't. I wonder if it has to remain a lance or if it can shift into other polearm esque weapons. Use it as a lance while on his Dragon horse then as a form of glaive or even a regular spear.
You sure we're not the bad guys? I mean using people like Duracell batteries in the sense that we'll burn them out doesn't sound particularly good.
But since you asked about him I'll be working primarily with what it gave me. He has lion like facial features, so equate that to an almost permanent snarl and a bushy brown beard that stretches to his hair. He also has burning red eyes and a voice that commands attention when he speaks.. I'd say he looks like a scarred but rather built man in his mid thirties. Personality wise he's immoral, so anything that he deems necessary he will do without hesitation. The Solomon order present themselves as a challenge to him which he enjoys greatly. He enjoys the rush of battle more than just about anything. He's a combative demon though not unreasonable.

It's strange how it has a swastika on the sigil. Weren't these created a hundred or so years before the Nazi's? I didn't think they had gone to Asia at any point either. Must've been wrong.

The swastika was used around 5,000 years before the Nazis decided to appropriate it; it was originally a Sanskrit symbol meaning 'good fortune'.
Go figure.

You'd be amazed which symbols were borrowed from other cultures just because someone liked how it looked. Sides I'm still using The Ars Goetia as a base for the history. Not the most well written fiction but I've always liked demons.

So the crack happened because a group of occultists called upon your demon. And this crack has allowed all demons to flow into the world from that point or from any point on the map? I'm asking because I have an idea of how to get Alloces into the world.
