"A little history of Chicago's underworld those bunches father was a high-roller here in Chicago him and Ole Ed McGowan the man that opened up this speakie we're old friends. Ed did business with Anthony DeWitt for sometime before he got pinched by the feds when that happen Ed made a promise to Anthony that the Brick Mansion would always be open to his kids. Since I just happen to take over the joint Ed made me swear that I'll keep this promise I promise and hell I get along well with Marie and Claire. I haven't chat with her that much she a sweet lass from the couple times we did chat hell people like that in a place like this are a sight for sore eyes." Laughed Naos as he pours himself a hair of the dog and takes a quick swig. Looking towards Eleanor "I know what goes on in the V.I.P section, Doll but please don't do anything that would brother the DeWitts there good friends on mine. Now back having to drinking hooch and having a merry time!"
Naos walks into the back room looking over towards the side is a sledgehammer that was used during the construction of this place Ole Ed brought off the crew that work on the place and hung it on a wall as a symbol of pride for the place "I should hang this old thing back up when the bar closes walking back into the bar Naos bends down and lays the hammer of the bottom shelf so that he can remembers to hang it up later on.

"Now Naos, you know I never aim to bother, I'm just a little ol' messenger bee that gets results that get high-end rates," Eleanor chuckled as Naos told John all about the DeWitts. She shouldn't have a expected anything to get past him. Patting Naos' shoulder, she turned her attention back to John, "If you want to know more than this 'schmuck'" she said in her best Naos impression, "I can tell ya provided you don't mind parting with some of that cabbage," she tapped one pretty nail on the table, pointing at John's jacket pocket where she presumed he would keep his wallet, making clear what she was asking for with a smile. Ellie left the two behind and brought Charlotte her water, but didn't stop to chat. There was such a thing as overselling it. Don't want to bite the hand that feeds her, she thought to herself looking over at Naos quizzically. She's worked for him for at least a year, but she still found out something new about him every day. Normally she knows all she needs to know about a person in a few hours at least. He was a puzzling one.
Returning to the two men at the counter she enquired, "Didya bring the doorman a drink? Ya know, something to keep him warm?"

"Fuck I forgot about Jamesson great I'll get him the rest of this whiskey I just open up." Naos grabs the bottle thinking about the the sledgehammer "Oh yeah I have to show him what I found to!" Pulling out the sledgehammer "He always wanted to hear the story behind this old thing anyways two birds one stone." Grabbing the hammer he starts to walk towards the revolving bookcase then towards the front door.

Marie lifted her eyes from the table that the group of four sat at and rebuilt her posture to it's previously alert state. She began to get the notion that several people at the bar were predictably talking about the DeWitts, due to picking up on the amount of brief gazes that was sent their way. She took note of the people who did, letting the familiar and unfamiliar faces stand out among the crowd, but the level of attention wasn't unexpected. It was a rare occurrence for the three siblings to crowd around a public place at once, but the crowd's curiosity was even more understandable considering that there was also a possible fourth. She still had to see things as seemingly insignificant as random glances and obvious conversation important, however, because she knew that whoever sought to bring her father down wanted his daughters gone next and that there was more reason for paranoia than ever before. After continuing this line of thinking, she mentally scolded herself for letting her guard down about the man speaking with Charlotte. Her reemerging mistrust for those around her brought her back to her original reasons for approaching this brother situation so carefully. If this was all just a plan to make the sisters vulnerable and potentially divide them, it was a very good and seemingly effective one so far. Marie's eyes once again focused on Tommy with the same kind of calculating intensity as she drifted further into her thoughts.
This line of thinking almost caused her to ignore Claire's responses to their conversation, but she was able to snap out of it in time to address her. Though in light of what she had just been thinking, Marie ignored the first part of Claire's response where she once again mentioned Tommy's similarities to their father. She looked at her sister as she spoke about it, but kept silent and with her own thoughts. Of course he resembled their father, because why would anyone who didn't be used as this kind of decoy? Even if he was their brother as his features suggested, why would it be impossible for him to still be working with those after the family? After all, it seemed fair that they would be after only the part of the family with direct ties to the business. Her face shifted to even deeper concern as she once again began thinking about who "they", the family or organization who killed her father, could be. It was something that she had spent sleepless nights trying to work out, but with how many possibilities and people her family naturally pissed off in their line of work, a direct answer never made itself clear. Regardless, she knew some people were behind it, people who she intended to bring down even if she had to by herself. She came back to her sister once again around the same time that she seemed to be giving Claire advice about recruiting soldiers, forcing herself to look mindful. "Even now, when potentially half of the people claiming to want to become soldiers for our family are simply looking for easier access to our throats?" She questioned severely, before letting her sister respond. Claire's advice was something that came often and, though Marie always questioned and chided her sister for it, was something that she usually secretly took to heart.
"...That's fine." Marie said simply, after hearing her sister's intentions of testing Tommy. Of course, she was planning on keeping a close eye on Claire the entire time she would do so, but her sisters intent seemed to fall in line with her own especially after its renewed vigor. Marie trusted Claire's assistance with protecting Charlotte from the trust that she placed on the man, even if they'd have to do it in secret. She then casually noticed Claire's brief period of eye contact with Tommy, realizing that all of the situations subtlety had left through the window. Marie stood from her seat, but made sure that she did so as casually as possible so that she didn't raise too much unwanted attention or seem intimidating. She simply gestured at the two soldiers who she brought with her to let them know to remain seated and casual. "I say we're going to them." She said, calmly. "But I expect you not to bring any more attention to us than we all already are." She gave Claire a stern gaze that turned into a look of confidence.

Charlotte's breakdown destroys Tommy, he was supposed to help her and all he did was make her worse. Silently he grabs the hit list and holds in front of her face. He tears the paper in half, then places the pieces over each other and rips them into four. To further prove his point he crushes the scraps in his hand. "Charlotte I told you I'd do whatever you wanted. I'm not here to kill people, I'm here to be with my family. You and the others are the reason I'm here, I won't let anyone take you away from me, and I won't do something that hurts you." He shoves the paper into his left sock to keep it safe. "I'll hide it for now if Claire or Marie see it who knows what they'll do." He sighs unsure of what to do, he reaches out to her and grabs her hands. They are soft and delicate a sharp contrast to his rough and calloused hands, he looks her in the eyes giving her the softest smile he can. "Everything is Jake. I promise."
He looked back at the other sisters it seems Marie was standing now, they didn't have much time. "Claire and Marie are here and about to come over so please no more crying. They'll kill me before I get the chance to tell them what happened." He laughs softly, but internally he was afraid. Tommy looks back at Marie and Claire smiling he waves them over, forcing them to make the next move.
(Meanwhile)
Martin opens the front door and to his surprise Naos is coming out the secret door with a sledgehammer in hand. "Well if it isn't my favorite dead man." Martin taunts as he raises the revolver aiming it at Naos head. "Now you want to take this outside, or make this worse for everyone inside?" A sadistic smile grows on his face, mocking Naos to make a move. He pulls down on the hammer of the gun knowing this couldn't have gone any better.

Claire scoffs at Marie's question. Sometimes she thinks she asks the obvious questions just to clarify. "That's why I'm here, aren't I? I can smell a snake a mile away so any recruits you like the sound of, send them my way and I'll give you either a soldier... Or a body of an enemy." She says confidently. Claire always enjoyed breaking the fresh people. You really know a person's true colours once you throw them into the situations she tasks out.
Claire nods in confirmation and stands herself, she already stated she isn't here to fight unless given solid reason. She's about to say something to Marie when out of the corner of her eye, she sees some young lad hold a gun up to Naos. Adrenaline hits her like a hammer. There's somebody here armed and looks reckless enough to pull the trigger, with both her sisters and possible brother in the room, and the only entrance is blocked by this gun wielding kid. She needs to pacify this fast.
She grabs Marie's shoulders and pulls her close. "Get Charlotte in the back room now. Don't come out until I give the word." She whispers into her ear urgently with a hint of aggression in her voice, all aimed towards the gunman. Without another word, she lets go off her sister and moves through the crowd and up behind the kid. She withdraws her own snub nose from her waistband and placed the barrel of the gun to the back of his head, pulling the hammer back and letting the familiar sound reach his ears. "You pull a gun on somebody under protection, kid? Pretty stupid of you. Even more stupid of you to pull a gun on somebody under my protection." her words are low and threatening, most of these wannabes can be diffused with a few scary words and she would rather not get blood on her shirt, nor have a Charlotte witness this if it all goes wrong.

Charlotte feels her Fear and anxiety slowly dissipate as she watches Tommy tear up the letter in front of her, she takes s moment to compose herself and find her cool tone once more. She feels slightly embarrassed by her reaction, she should have had faith in Tommy. "I'm sorry about getting so upset... I've just tried hard to stay out of this criminal career and it's hard enough know my sisters are a part of it." She looks down for a second, but when she comes back up she is smiling. "Thank you. Truly. It was a lot to ask for, but I really appreciate you understanding." She reaches into her handbag and pulls out a handkerchief, wiping her teary eyes with it.
She looks over to where Tommy mentioned and to her surprise, she sees both her sisters right there. They're looking ready to come over, but Claire whispers something to Marie before heading to the other side of the speakeasy, the place is too crowded to see where she went to. She turns to Tommy. "Don't worry. I will be here to defend you if they're unnecessarily harsh. You will get along just fine." She says with a reassuring smile, but Charlotte is just as worried. She hopes she can convince Marie to see that this is truly their brother.

"Okay okay boy I'll put the hammer down but I have a gift for you schmuck."Laying the hammer down he pulls out his M1911 from the waist of his pants aiming the gun at his leg Naos knows the little schmucks high off of adrenaline. "One go drift back to your rat holes or your going to get cut down, It's either you or me. Thanks C for this I appreciate this." His finger on the trigger his finger ready to kill tonight.

"Oh Ellie, I'm gonna start thinking you only love me for my money." He says with a laugh as she walks past. Ellie was a good looking lass but he'd seen enough to know when a woman's eye is on his wallet. Plenty of women like them back home before and after the rebellion. He sat there quietly drinking his beer while the rest of the bar kept up its lively attitude. The DeWitts were still hanging around each other and chatting. Might have to see if they have any work that needs doing on the side. Be good to have a few more dollars to send back home at the end of the month. Just as he was contemplating this he heard the door open and the click of a pistol being cocked. He turned his gaze ever so slowly toward the door.
There stood a young welp with a revolver pointed at Naos. Naos had his own pistol in hand pointed back at the boy. Before the two could start shooting he stood up from his stool. "Boy, I really recommend that you put that away and run back home. You see alot of people like this bar and Naos too. If something were to happen to him well we just might have to punish the person responsible. Do you know what happened to the last guy who wrecked the bar? Ever heard of a blood eagle?"

As Ed waited for his drinks to arrive, he decided to look towards the table where he was looking at before Eleanor scared everyone away. Sitting at the table was the two people from before, but now he got a closer look he recognized one of them as Charlotte DeWitt. While Ed never saw a DeWitt before in person, He was given a description by the locals and the very gal he saw sitting there defiantly match it. All Ed had to do was to get Charlotte to hire him, even though the DeWitt family were hit hard by the marshall law, they were still powerful enough for him to get lots of dough just by working for them. While Charlotte wasn't the Big Cheese of the DeWitt family and that it was probably a bad idea to walk up to a DeWitt and try to ask for employment, however, fortune favors the bold. Excitedly, Ed got up from his barstool then walked towards the table where Charlotte and the man who he assumed was her bodyguard were at. As Ed approached he ignored the bodyguard who was waving someone over and instead walked next to where Charlotte was sitting.
"Sorry for interrupting whatever conversation you were having with your bodyguard here Miss DeWitt" Ed spoke as politely as possible while making sure he was presentable, as to make a good first impression. "My name is Eddy Farwell, but most just call me Ed, I'm a Torpedo who's currently on the nut. To put it simply I want you to hire me. Would you care to listen to my application?" Ed then gave a smile hoping that this plan will work.

As she began to turn towards Charlotte's table from her standing position, Marie was caught off guard by Claire's sudden commotion. After a brief moment of confusion, she followed her sister's gaze to the entrance where she was able to make out what her sister was looking at. Though the gunman was being subtle enough to not alert the majority of the crowd, Marie picked up enough to determine that someone was definitely being held at gunpoint. She felt pride towards Claire's demonstration of vigilance but didn't show it in the moment. Instead, she immediately began to try focusing on a clear path to safely navigate the situation. Despite the speakeasy's rowdy reputation, she knew that such a critical situation was no coincidence with all of the DeWitts being at the same place at once. Before she could form a plan, though, she felt Claire's hands grip her shoulders and make her snap back to attention. She backed up against the table a bit in response, but met her sister's gaze. Marie's expression was strained as she listened to her sister explain what she wanted Marie to do. With a limited view of what was going on outside, she wasn't sure if the gunman had anyone else with him and worried about Claire's safety. She held her sister's gaze for a few moments longer before nodding reluctantly. "Fine." She replied, unable to suppress her look of concern. She had never felt entirely comfortable following anyone's plan but her own, but Claire gave her little time to make her own suggestions. Marie said nothing else to Claire as she left, but turned to the soldiers that she had brought with her. "Both of you will follow Claire to wherever she goes." She said to the two men who were previously sitting idle. "But I don't want you to focus on that man at the door. If you see anyone else coming around from outside, keep your weapons on them." At Marie's word, the men casually followed Claire outside as she went to meet the gunman. As the three people who she was formerly sitting with began to depart, she subconsciously patted her own small gun that rested comfortably and undetectable within a pocket of her suit top, simply making sure that she had access to it if she needed it.
Marie quickly walked past the numerous people and tables that blocked her path to Charlotte, moving with thoughtless instinct. Both Charlotte and her guest seemed oblivious to the situation and she didn't want to immediately make it clear. 'Are the people who are out to ruin the family planning to attack the group now while we're all together?' She questioned to herself as she walked to the table. She knew that if someone was able to spread word from the inside or if they had been monitored the whole time, it would've been a great plan to strike now. Maybe she was overthinking things, she thought, but she knew that they were very under prepared if she was right to be paranoid. The two men that she brought with her, while capable, would be nothing compared to an army. As she approached the table, she managed to wipe the dour expression she was wearing and stopped blaming herself enough to wear a neutral expression as she appeared before Charlotte. The man at the table seemed to be looking at her with a friendly and expectant gaze, but she certainly had no time for that at the moment. At the time, she was just as paranoid with Tommy as with the man outside. Joining Tommy in Marie's paranoia was the man who had appeared suddenly to ask Charlotte a question and she was once again conscious of her gun, but she waited for the exchange between the two to end until addressing her sister, Tommy, and the stranger. Instead, she strangely stood in front of the table while subtly keeping an eye on the commotion at the entrance.

Mikey she's Claire put her gun to Martin's head, almost instinctively he gets to her side and places an ice pick to her neck. He presses the metal tip into her neck just enough to cause a small amount of blood to come out. "I got this dumb broad Martin, what do you want to do?" Mikey yells to Martin. There overconfidence was starting to wane, and a nervousness started to fill the room. Martin stood with a serious expression weighing his options thinking about what was best for him.
Tommy tenses up when a man who introduces himself as Ed, begins his sales pitch. In no mood for any of this Tommy stands up and confronts the man. "Shove off!" His tone is harsh trying to dissuade this unwanted visitor. "Talk to Marie or Claire if that's what you want, we have nothing to..." He begins to trail off as he notices Claire sneak away towards the door. Marie began coming towards them, and the two seated men went after Claire. The older man at the bar was yelling something at the open door, and he sounds angry. "Ok you want a job, you keep these two safe until I get back." He points at Marie, and Charlotte, and full sprints to the door. On the way there he passes the bar and grabs the bottle that Claire was drinking from earlier, he was unarmed at least this bottle was something.
As he sprints passed the two men one of them grabs his left wrist, without thinking Tommy spins around and throws a hard punch to his face, knocking the man to the ground. Without missing a step he continues his stride up the stairs, he spots the bartender with gun drawn, one of those punks from earlier has a revolver facing the barkeep. Claire has her weapon in the boys face, Tommy see's an ice pick pressed against her skin. An unholy rage fills him, before he knows it the bottle is thrown across the room straight into the kid's face. Blood, whiskey, and glass explode from his face and he begins to fall. In that moment Tommy pounces on the kid ramming his left arm under the attackers chin, he grabs the ice pick and puts it near the child's left eye. "You think I'm going to FUCKING LET YOU TOUCH MY FAMILY." He screams pressing the point of the ice pick into the now unconscious boy's face.
"Enough." Martin snaps lowering his gun. "We'll leave Naos." he turns as two of the others pull the kid out from under Tommy. "Dom's going to hear about this don't you worry." He yells from outside, as they slowly walk away.
Breathing heavily for a moment Tommy stands up and faces Claire, he reaches out and wipes the blood off her neck. "Did they hurt you Claire?" He ask giving her a concerned look, looking her over for any injuries that may have happened. His concern towards to a smile as he feels confident that she wasn't hurt, a sigh of relief escapes him, but for now all that matters is she's alright.

Claire feels the ice pick against her throat before she sees it. Her confidence doesn't waver though, these are just boys who think they're on top of the world right now and nothing scares them more than somebody who smiles in the face of death. She turns her head slightly to look at him, not too suddenly to make him twitch and sink the sharp point into her through reaction. She locks eye contact with him and a crooked grin spreads across her face. "You gonna kill me, boy? Are you just holding that against me because you think you're pretty tough? I hope you're gonna kill me. Because if you don't in the next three seconds, I'm driving that thing through your skull." Her words are chilling, it is said with a calm, sadistic nature, enough to inject Fear into every person who hears it. As she says this, she presses her gun firmer on the back of the other kid's neck, Daring this newcomer to stop her.
Claire however, doesn't get a response before a glass bottle out of nowhere hits the boy directly in the face. He is knocked out before he even starts falling and a few small specks of his blood splatters Claire's cheek. Another joins the fray by pouncing on the kid, using the ice pick to scream in his face about family. She recognises them as Tommy after a few seconds. She is impressed with the way he took the kid out without any effort and her belief he is her brother is further reinforced; they definitely both have their father's Wrath.
The gunman, and two other hidden assailants, begin to cut their losses and leaves. She take notes of the threat of Dom. She knows the guy, well knew his uncle more truthfully before the martial law. She takes a mental note of this. Tommy then begins to ask Claire questions concerning her wellbeing and smiles at her. While she is grateful she didn't have to get her own hands dirty, she's annoyed that he interfered, her stubborn attitude being the cause of that feeling.
"I had it handled." She says to him bluntly as she seats his hand away from her, wiping the blood off herself. She turns her head at the sound of a groan. One of Marie's goons is picking himself off the floor, holding a bloody and broken nose, he was in the path between the table Tommy was sitting at and the stand off place, no doubt in her mind it was Tommy. She turns back to Tommy, looking even more annoyed. "And that was one of my people you just clobbered back there." She says before turning to Naos. "Let me know if you need anything." She says before heading back over to Marie and Charlotte.

Ellie, watching this go down from afar of course, signaled to the canary and the band to play a little louder. Luckily this fight was contained to the door and the street. As the music increased more people danced, and the noise covered up the brutal beatdown the one kid dumb enough to threaten a DeWitt got from Tommy. Eleanor couldn't help but chuckle to herself, really who did these young'ns think they were? All of this over a little hurt pride? Pathetic. What wasn't pathetic however was Tommy's form and strength as this kid got what was coming to him. Definitely more to this one than meets the eye. Overall, Ellie was just happy she didn't have to put her own Smith and Wesson M&P .38 Special with a pearl handle to use tonight. For now it was tucked safely in her garter, but using guns besides perhaps a rifle or shotgun didn't particularly suit her. As she walked towards the bar from her safe haven in the VIP section she did manage to hear one voice over the buzz.
"Dom's going to hear about this," echoed in her mind for a few moments. Dom was a smalltime hood, normally not someone for Eleanor to worry about except for the fact that her apartment lands right smack dab in the middle of his territory, last she was updated about those ever-changing borders. The walk home tonight would be a little less than pleasant she supposed, if he knew where she lived. Paling slightly she managed to plaster a smile onto her face as she approached the heroes of the day, clapping excitedly, "My knights in shining armor, good job, all of you," she threw a wink just at Tommy before reaching under the bar for their handy dandy first aid kit, "Now who wants this croaker's utter devotion to their health for the next five minutes?"

Charlotte is initially surprised by the man's introduction and request to hear his application. Application? She finds herself curious what he means. She is about to ask him, but Tommy tells him to 'shove off'. Charlotte looks a little shocked at the sudden rudeness from her brother. "Tommy. Be nice. He isn't being a bother to us." She softly scolds him and gives the man, who introduced himself as Eddy, an apologetic smile. L
Charlotte hears a commotion at the front of the bar before she can question Eddy, angry voices mostly and two people going in the direction of where Claire disappeared to. Tommy is already on his feet and barrelling down in that direction, punching a man solid in the face and to the ground through his path. Charlotte clasps a hand over her mouth. She can't quite believe what she saw! Her brother, who has been nothing but sweet and understanding, just attacked a man with little provocation. She hears a struggle and most of the bar go silent as she hears screaming words, Tommy's screaming words, threaten somebody about touching his family. Charlotte is visibly frightened by this turn of events. Did she truly know her brother at this point? The doubt clear on her face.

"Thanks Claire yet again I own you another favor you are your family will always have a place in this mansion! Now I have to make a call to a friend." Says Naos as he goes into the back and makes a call to Jack O'Neal a associate in of Naos. Changing out of his outfit then into his "work" outfit looks like it's time to pay ole Dommy Boy a visit calling out to Mike to watch the bar Naos leaves with his pistol and a shotgun. Looks like someone is going to get cut down tonight hoping into his Flivver he hides the gun in the back then drives off to pick up Jack an a couple of other guys.

Ed was taken aback by the sudden movement after he asked his question. Tommy, the bodyguard told him to beat it but then proceeded to give him a job, then rushed over to the door with a bottle in hand to the entrance punching someone along the way. 'Well, that was the easiest interview I've ever had.' Ed thought to himself with a big smile at his achievement before he whipped out his Lugar P08 and got into a combat ready stance. 'OK, simple job, don't mess up this chance Luck gave you, all you have to do to protect Charlotte and Mari—oh shit!' Ed suddenly became terrified as he realized the consigliere and more importantly the head of the DeWitt family was in the bar. He quickly looked to where Tommy pointed and hoped that Marie wasn't already planning his death for rudely talking to a member of the DeWitt family. Luckily she wasn't looking his way but instead the entrance where a fight between the boys from earlier and Naos, Tommy and a gal he didn't know. Ed turned towards Charlotte from the fight before hearing a smash and the bodyguard screaming about family or something, he couldn't hear well due to the Jazz getting louder. Charlotte was scared by something, probably frightened by the fact her bodyguard left her with a random stranger, Ed thought it would be best to try to calm her down before Marie would take notice and blame him for it.
"Everything is Jake Miss DeWitt, your bodyguard over there is hitting all six cylinders, you don't have to worry." Ed said hoping that was enough to calm her down.

Alongside Charlotte and Tommy, Marie watched as Claire was threatened by the man and his ice pick. Her hand immediately went to the pocket containing her small concealed gun, but Tommy reacted far before she had time to do anything. She watched the blur of action in stunned silence, but instinctively moved in front of Charlotte to keep her away from the action. She felt her temper rising as he knocked down one of the guards who was moving to help her sister, but did nothing since he had no way of knowing why the man had tried to stop him. As he grabbed the bottle and ran towards the attacker, however, her anger focused on Tommy's recklessness. She was conscious of the fact that if the attacker had seen Tommy, he could have chosen to finish off Claire and begin shooting. At this point, she subtly removed the small gun from her suit but remained where she was standing. Though she was now armed, she was only preparing to fire if everything went completely wrong. Because it didn't, Marie simply kept still and watched at the attacker came crashing down with the remains of a glass bottle. She noticed Charlotte begin to shrink away from the gore and turn away, not surprising her in the least. One of Marie's biggest concerns with Charlotte was that her weakness in violent situations would eventually cause her to freeze up when actually confronted by it so, instead of comforting her sister, she impulsively pulled her sister's hand from her face and firmly kept her from looking away from the scene. She didn't think that Charlotte would understand why she had just done that, but it was too late to take the gesture back. She stared outside, watching the men keep their word and retire to the streets.
She then walked forward enough to ensure that Claire was uninjured, but stopped once she saw her heading towards the two. Since she was walking with as much confidence and strength as ever, she allowed her sister to finish the distance. After the concern for Claire's health drifted away, she immediately began to focus on Tommy's actions. He had obviously demonstrated loyalty to the family, but maybe it was still just that, a demonstration. After all, the men did seem to give up whatever they came to do easily. Perhaps increasing the trust between Tommy and the sisters was their entire reason for showing up in the first place. The only problem with this being the fact that one of the men had gotten very beaten up by a bottle, but it was an attack that could easily have been made to be nonlethal. Regardless, she withdrew her gun and placed it back in the same exact place as before. She ignored the stranger trying to comfort her sister as she moved back towards her at the table with a serious expression. "You saw what just happened, didn't you? This was just a taste of what's to come and what would continue to follow us wherever we'd go." Marie said to her sister, coldly. She was unsure if the attack even had anything to do with their presence at the building, but she was willing to let her sister believe so. After many arguments with her Charlotte of the same nature, it was nice to finally have an example base off of. She was aware that Charlotte wanted to take her and Claire away from the business, but she knew that staying in was the only way to properly prepare for the people who wanted them dead. "Would you rather we not have anyone with us when more come?" Marie felt bad about speaking to Charlotte this way, especially after what she had just witnessed, but she also felt that it was necessary. She believed that she had to help Charlotte adapt to their lifestyle before she'd ever be safe. She kept an eye on how everyone around her was reacting to the aftermath while awaiting a response.

Ellie's smile makes almost makes Tommy forget about what he just did. Now Tommy had his moments, but he never had a fit of rage like that before. That was primal feeling one he hasn't felt since France, it wasn't a feeling he liked. Noticing Ellie's wink he can't help, but smile back. "I got one for you, I hit the wrong guy it seems." Tommy turns to one of Claire's men and extends his hand in an offer good faith. "I apologize, I wasn't thinking. The names Thomas. Thomas DeWitt." Intentionally using his name to smooth over any bad feelings. The bodyguard reluctantly shakes his hand and walks over to Ellie.
Reaching out he taps Claire on the arm, "What are you going to do about this Dom guy?" He waits for a moment, until he spots his new employee Ed standing over Charlotte trying to comfort her. Marie looks angry more so than normal, Charlotte was a mess. Ignoring Claire if she even said anything he moves to Charlotte and takes a knee in front of her. "Attagirl." He starts grabbing her hands trying to calm her. "Nobody's hurt, I promise. Claire had it handled, she didn't even need me." He repeats what he was told, not wanting to hurt Claire's pride hoping to not anger her anymore, after he punched out one of her henchmen. "And that poor palooka I flattened was one of her guys. He must have been trying to stop me, but yeah..." He trails off trying to say the right words. "I'm sorry you saw that Charlotte, if there's anything I can do to make up for it please tell me."
He turns his head to Marie her face is hard, making sure Tommy couldn't read what was on her mind. He stays up and gives Ed a nod of appreciation. "Thanks I owe you one." His words were honest "Thomas DeWitt always pays his debts don't you worry." He turns to face Marie, he can't help but show his nervousness. He feels as if every move is being analyzed, and at any second those two goons will take him away never to be seen again. "Hello Marie, as I'm sure you know I'm Thomas DeWitt...your brother." The words shake a little, he gulps trying to compose himself awaiting her words.

Claire ignores Tommy's question. Mostly because she is still pissed at what he did and second she needs to make sure Marie and Charlotte are okay, she will start to think on Dom once her priority for family is fulfilled. She watches Marie's rather harsh lecture about the violence that follows their family that just took place to Charlotte. Charlotte is sensitive and knowing this will just get her even more upset, it hurts Claire seeing her sister get worked up but she needs to learn and just being out of the business doesn't make you safe from their family's demons and they have tried to use words, maybe a demonstration of it is what she needed.
"Marie." She says to her loudly enough to put an end to it. Charlotte can only take so much. "The guy's belonged to Dom Petrelli. He's a small fry but his uncle was Roger Petrelli, he was a friend of our Father, a genuine one. Problem is, Dom has always been a loose cannon, was always a little dog yapping and biting people's ankle, trying to get noticed. But now he has a little bit of power and a little gang of youngsters, no doubt he will be reckless towards us, regardless of the weight behind our names." She explains to Marie. Claire doesn't believe Dom's boys were there to attack the sisters, they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. She knows he will eventually try to rub them off the picture in an attempt to gain more ground, he can't be allowed the time to get round to that.

Charlotte feels her hand forcefully moved away from her face, making her watch what is happening, she looks to see Marie as the culprit. She wants to shake her off, turn her head, close her eyes, anything to not watch the violence taking place. Unfortunately, Charlotte was never a confrontational person. In moment's like this, she was too scared to stand up to people. Marie always said this was one of Charlotte's weaknesses, she didn't think so. She wasn't used to violence, that isn't an uncommon thing. Many women don't like the sight of violence right in front of their very eyes. She fails to hear Marie's words, she doesn't want to hear it. Her oldest sister had a duty to shield her away from this stuff, why was she doing the opposite? The betrayal is clear as dayon her face as fresh tears stream down face.
She looks down as Marie continues to talk, this time she hears her. When more come? So that's the only way to feel safe? Become people like those who just caused an entire commotion inside a place where it was relatively peaceful? No... Marie is wrong, nobody has ever harassed Charlotte during her time staying away from it all. She also has a feeling those boys weren't there because the sisters were here. It had to be coincidence. Father always endeared Charlotte's innocent and kind nature, he would be so upset to see it tarnished if he were still alive. She feels frustrated at Marie for doing this and frustrated at Claire for not stopping Marie sooner, her thoughts flood her ears and doesn't hear Eddy or Tommy's soothing words. "I want to go home." She says after a few seconds of silence, voice shaky from the fright earlier but there is a tiny hint of anger towards her sisters hidden in there, eyes still looking down to the floor. The stress of the last ten minutes have given her a mighty headache.

Eleanor accepted the bruised and bloodied bodyguard as graciously as a bouquet on Valentine's Day. She poured some rubbing alcohol onto some gauze and dabbed the guard's cheek gently before patching it up with some medical tape and bandages. This was the most she was capable of, never quite getting her father's first aid lessons committed to memory. Perhaps she could provide stitches if given ample time and an understanding patient. Ellie clenched her jaw as she saw Naos leave, a pensive look stuck on her face. He was on a warpath no doubt, and Ellie could only hope that his anger doesn't get him killed.
As she sent the bodyguard on his way she watched his retreating figure go back to the DeWitt's, undoubtedly upset with each other. Poor Charlotte looked like hell. Guess there was a reason she backed away from all of this. She noticed Suzanne walk in from the back and get to work around the bar with surprise, Ellie thought she still had a couple hours left in her shift. Looking up at the clock she realized she was off now. Hustling to the back she grabbed her coat and purse, taking off the apron and leaving it in her cubby, and made her wait out. Saying goodbye to a couple of the other barmaids, she looked over at Tommy and the DeWitt's one final time before exiting through the bookcase. She was going to sit at the cafe down the street where most folks walked past or pulled up to when they were coming to The Brick Mansion. Perhaps she could gather more intel on their comings and goings from there.
Sitting down next to the window in the warm interior of the Ancient Earth Coffee and Tea Room, Ellie had a wonderful view of the street. John was right, there was a nip in the air and snow was beginning to fall. When her tea was brought to her table she sat in quiet reflection, let its earthy tones melt away the stress of the day. She liked to pretend that things like turf wars, bootlegging, and the occasional beatdown of a customer didn't get to her, but the stress she felt in her shoulders and her occasional migraines told a different story. Maybe it wouldn't affect her so deeply if it wasn't her job to actively seek it out, but she was willing to do whatever it took to pay the bills these days. Looking out at the bleak landscape of the streets of Chicago, Ellie's mind was filled with visions of Hollywood and the glamour that followed. 'Soon', she thought to herself, 'soon.'

As Marie's adrenaline began to fade alongside everyone elses, shame caused her to step away from Charlotte and look down to the table before them. Predictably, Claire and Tommy were now were now coming over and she watched Tommy fail at his interaction with Claire as they made their way over to the table. She chose to hear both of them out before saying anything, but it was Claire who spoke first. Marie controlled her temper once again as Claire accidentally contradicted the basis for the lesson that she was trying to instill into Charlotte, but she kept her face from showing much more annoyance than it already was. "Of course they're small time, Claire." She said, though she still felt a bit paranoid. She sighed and kept her gaze at Claire from turning into a glare. "But is anyone with a gun not a threat to our sister? She's made it through her entire life without preparing for anything." Though her words were cold, she noticed how uncomfortable Claire felt towards her treatment of Charlotte. Marie gave Claire a knowing look in an attempt to make something close to an apology.
She said nothing as Tommy comforted Charlotte, but stared through him while he did so. She was more than sick of people treating Charlotte like a child and if Tommy did manage to become their brother, she was prepared to stop him from doing so. Though she hates being so cruel to her sister, comforting Charlotte would only encourage her behavior and send her deeper into her fear of reality at this point. Regardless, she allowed Tommy to finish without commenting on this, yet. In between this, she noticed that the two men she had brought with her were standing closer to Tommy than anyone else, especially the one with the bruise on his face. She appreciated the sentiment, but Tommy didn't exactly seem to be in a violent mood anymore. She continued to watch Tommy as he turned around to introduce himself. As Marie had long taken her glasses off, Tommy's close appearance to her father were now slightly blurrier and stopped having such an effect on her. This allowed her to stare him down with eyes like the heads of nails, the intensity that was stolen from her when she had first arrived to the building hours ago. Her attitude wasn't completely driven by mistrust, as she was beginning to believe his claims more as time went on, but something still made her feel that he brought more trouble than he was worth. She didn't feel the same bond to Tommy that Charlotte felt for him simply because of their blood, believing the quick relationship between the two to be nothing more than blind trust. It was the man's actions in the future that would influence her relationship with him, not anything predetermined by family. Considering the fact that she had upset Charlotte enough for one day and that her own lack of trust was slowly diminishing, Marie ended her piercing silence with a sigh and words relatively cordial for her. "Yes, I believe I know who you are as well." She said, letting him interpret it however he chooses. "As well as the reason you've come all this way. You seemed pretty passionate about someone who you'd just met back there. Maybe a bit too passionate, considering how sloppily it played out." She left Charlotte's side and began to casually walk around to Tommy's side, slowly stepping out of his line of sight. "Anyway, I believe that Claire has a bit of work that you can occupy yourself with." She said, moving her eyes to meet Claire's briefly before turning back to Tommy. "An in on our business is what you want, right?"
She felt some sympathy for Charlotte, whose trembling had begun to worsen, but she ignored her request to go home. This meeting was what she wanted wasn't it? She was satisfied with that answer, but of course didn't actually say it to Charlotte. Instead, she reluctantly said nothing as the various people comforted her.

A small fire was kindle at Marie's words, Charlotte wasn't cut out for any of this. Dragging her kicking and screaming wasn't going change that. She wasn't made for this, and while she was right Charlotte was a weakness, even her father thought so, still it wasn't right to treat her this way. He shoots Marie back a look as she and Claire discuss business while Charlotte is getting worse. Tommy was shocked at how fast they claim to care for her, but in the same breathe go back to talking shop.
Marie finally addresses Tommy, her words had a stoic way they left her mouth. Each word felt carefully measured like a master craftsman everything was nice and perfect and fake, like a mirage in the desert. The last few words she says concerns him. She is willing to give him a chance, this may be the only one he has to earn their trust. He turns to Claire and Marie, thinking long and hard about this. He was about to say yes, when all he could think of was poor Charlotte he promised her he wouldn't get involved, and he wasn't going to start breaking promises now. She was the first family he's had in eight years, he couldn't hurt her. "You're right, Claire could help me. I'm the best mechanic in New York, Charlotte says you work for a guy named Al if you could get me a job there I would be thankful. I'm a hard worker and I'll do anything you ask." He looks Claire in the eyes with a pure honesty. He walks to Charlotte and puts his hand on her shoulder. "You're wrong though, my ma died when I was twelve years old, that letter on the table was the first and last time Anthony...dad talked to me." Saying dad was weird to him, but he uses that word on purpose in front of his new family. "All I wanted was to meet you all, to know you, to see the family I never knew." He squeezes lightly on Charlotte's shoulder to give himself a small confidence boost. "If you want to hire someone for that kind of work Eddy here is looking." He throws his head at his new found friend. "But I promised Charlotte I wouldn't get involved with this, and I don't break my promises. I don't care if you two hate me, I don't care if you don't trust me. I'll prove my worth to you in another way, or die trying."
With that he kisses Charlotte on the cheek, and whisper to her. "I love you, I'm happy I met you, I'll call you tomorrow." Leaving the letter on the table he walks past his two sisters and straight into the bodyguards. "Get Charlotte home safe." He orders them, even though those men are under no obligation to him. He grabs his coat and walks out into the cold. Tommy begins to wonder aimlessly, all these street look the same, especially with the weather getting worse. With his hands in his pocket he finds a few coins he thought were long gone. "Thank goodness for small miracles." He thinks to himself, and heads to the first shop he finds. Buying a pack of cigarettes and a lighter he leaves in a slightly better mood. He wasn't much of a smoker, but it definitely helped calm his nerves. After getting even more lost, he walks by a coffee shop he stops suddenly as a familiar face sits in the window. With the cigarette barely hanging in his mouth he lets out a smile towards Ellie, deciding to head inside he puts out his smoke and walks in. It's nice and warm here, it's almost like what happened earlier was all gone and the world kept on spinning. It reminded him of this one small little place in France, he couldn't even try to pronounce the name, the place ran out of coffee two years before he got there, all they had was wine. Tommy loves wine now a days, but it's impossible to find anything that good in the states. He takes a seat across from Ellie, and pulls out her business card and places it on the table. "Is it a little early to cash this in?" He says his voice sounds tired, as if he just got off a long day at work.

Claire returns a look to Marie which is she has many times, but has one meaning: don't overdo it. Claire wants to harden Charlotte up for the things that will inevitably come for the family as well, but it's all for no good if you break her. She's seen many people get pushed too in her service for the army. They took on more than they could and then the pressure placed upon them by these tasks and people pushing them into it, they broke. They become a shell of themselves and if they're lucky, they become emotionless sociopaths. If unlucky... Well, Claire has worked hard to suppress the times she saw somebody break in the unlucky way. The different between them and her baby sister is she was born into this life, not of her choice. She's reluctant, so it needs to be done one step at a time.
She turns her head and listens to what Tommy has to say with a blank expression. While she still trust Tommy as far as she can throw him, another Mechanic is what Al needs and if his reputation is as good as he says it is, Al will be happy. It also gives her time alone with Tommy and she will be able to test if these loyalties are true. He better be prepared, because Claire had no intention on going easy on him because they share blood. "We'll see." is all she says when he finishes, but in her mind she has already accepted his proposal.
Once he leaves, she walks over to Charlotte and squeezes her arm firmly, but with affection, to let her know that she loves her baby sister, no matter how tough she is on her. She turns to Eddy, then to Marie. "He'll do." She whispers to her before heading back to the bar.

Charlotte is relieved to hear Tommy's words and stand up to her sisters, saying he won't be a part of the family business. But it also worries her, Claire and Marie are hard on her because she doesn't want to be a part of it and they love her to pieces. How will they be towards Tommy, who right now is a stranger to them? She tries not to think on it too much. She has faith in Tommy, faith that he will be able to live in Chicago honestly.
She smiles a little from his parting words, it almost makes her forget about the whole ordeal that just happened. She feels Claire's hand squeeze her arm and looks up in her eyes. She can see that she cares, she always found it difficult to show affection to her sisters which didn't involve beating somebody senseless to protect them. The bruised Bodyguards walks over to help Charlotte to her feet, she declines politely. "No no, do not worry. I can help myself up. You have already done more than enough. But thank you for the thought." She says with a soft smile, her voice back to it's usual pleasant tone. She stands up from her seat and looks at Marie. Her expression is unreadable as always, she is worried that the business is going to push them apart even further, the same thoughts about Claire as well. She hopes this is something they can pull through, because it will be the toughest challenge this family as faced.

Ellie propped her head up on her hand and watched Tommy quizzically as he put out his cigarette, entered the coffee shop, and sat down across from her. Pulling out the business card that she had given her, she weakly smiled at him, he sounded as tired as she felt. "Never too early sugar," she replied lackadaisically. Somehow she always felt this way whenever she left work. Completely drained mentally. She can't fake anything as easily out in the real world. Stirring her tea quietly she pondered over her next words. She could always try to grill him on the DeWitt's and his standing with them, but she honestly didn't care. Surprisingly, Eleanor found herself more interested in Tommy as a person rather than as a pawn in her own little game of intrigue. But then again she knew of certain people in certain places that would pay handsomely for any information at all. Resolving herself to earning his trust, she handed him one of the tiny cafe menus and began, "Get whatever you want, it's on me, I think you had a rougher day than I did." Taking a sip of her own tea she let him look over the menu for a few moments before asking, "Tell me, did you used to box? You had great form when you beat that kid to a pulp. My daddy taught me down in New Orleans before--" She bit her lip, surprised at how quickly she had drifted to talking about her father. In a voice barely above a whisper she finished, "Before he was killed." Ellie took another sip of her tea, calming her nerves a little bit, not letting the memories slip back into her mind. She looked up at Tommy, trying very hard not to betray any of her emotions.

Stopping at the meeting point Naos picks up Jack and a two others that are in Jack's "crew" "So Naos what the hell happen at the mansion?" Says Jack with his thick Boston accent. Naos says in return "I threw out Dom's boys since they were causing a raucous in the bar and Ellie knocked the lights out of one of the little schmucks. Then next thing I know the little shits are back at the bar waving a gun in my face like they were a cowboy in the west!" Naos' face starts to glow a shade of red from his anger at Dom. "So let me guess you want to whack Dom because he's pokin' his ugly head into out territory am I right?" Naos shakes his head up and down "Well I'm glad me and the boys we're packing heat already looks like tonight night some getting whacked!" Jack says boastfully and starts to laugh hell he just got done giving a fella a new pair of cement shoes and now he going to end the night in a shootout this is why he loves Chicago this city never had a dull moment.

As Tommy prepared to respond to her questioning about his intentions, Marie casually paced back to her original position to the side of Charlotte. She stared blankly at the man and listened to his entire response with a neutral expression, waiting patiently for him to arrive at his point. While doing so, her expression moved to a more negative position when she saw that he appeared to be internally conflicted with his answer. She had expected him to jump to the opportunity regardless of if he had came with good intentions, but knew that he could merely be trying to keep up a guise. She made sure to note that he'd have to be a very good actor if that were case, as he plainly displayed a significant amount of emotion with the way he was acting. She was hoping that he'd accept her offer to work in the actual business, knowing that she could convince Claire to send him on one of the more particularly tasks that needed to be done. If he screwed up on a major assignment, like an elimination task or any other high-stakes job, maybe things would take care of themselves? With this in mind, her visual contempt deepened as he began to request the mild mechanical work that Claire spent part of her time on. Still, she knew that the power she had meant that getting Tommy involved with any of this part of her life at all was enough to influence things to go how she wanted them to. She kept herself from scoffing when he claimed to only come here to meet family, though his actions had thus far supported his words. Even if he was who he said he was with no malevolent intentions, she couldn't imagine that he left everything to simply meet with strangers. If that were the case, he was proving to be too emotional to be useful and she had enough of that type from Charlotte. Though she was beginning to believe that the man in front of her may have been telling the truth, she still couldn't feel anything for him through relation alone. She would have to let him grow on her, but it seemed unlikely at this rate. She was neutral about his suggestion of Eddy, as she didn't have much of an impression of him yet. He didn't participate in the fight, which may have meant that he was level headed. Though, it could also suggest that he was too soft for the kind of work that the family desperately needed in these times. She gave Eddy an expressionless regard before turning back to continue staring at Tommy.
Marie continued to stiffly stare at Tommy in thoughtful silence, letting him finish making promises about proving himself which she believed would inevitably stagnate. Marie winced and her body tensed as Tommy kissed Charlotte's cheek. Though it was obvious that he wasn't making contact to harm her sister, she felt her temper flare slightly. She didn't feel that Tommy deserved to become such an integral part of the family yet. Alongside that, paranoia made her believe that his part in Charlotte's life may eventually separate her from her sister. Subconsciously, though, she was jealous that he was able to pamper her while she couldn't. Despite all of this, she kept from saying or doing anything to make the situation more complicated. She allowed Tommy to leave with silent acceptance of his terms, but was made even more angry when he addressed her men as if he had any power over them. She made a mental note to lower their pay and address them later when they followed his words and moved to tend to Charlotte.
She turned to Eddy, who appeared to be waiting to be addressed. "Speak to me later while I'm working. I think you know the place to find me." She said, staring at him with little regard. "If you can do anything, we'll make sure we can trust you before giving you something." She then turned without waiting for a response from the stranger and looked down at Charlotte. She lied a hand on her younger sister's shoulder and met her reddened gaze, wanting to show her some sympathy. She wants to show some kindness to her, but doesn't manage it. She looks over at Claire at the bar before returning her gaze to Charlotte. "I'll be leaving for home with the men." She says simply. "Do you still want to go home?" She wasn't sure if Charlotte was angry at her enough to skip the ride home in order to avoid her. Not wanting her to be out by herself, she intended to leave Charlotte to stay with Claire.

Tommy smiles at Ellie accepting him at the table. It feels like forever since he wasn't nervous, what with the fight and Claire and Marie staring holes through him it had been a long day. Taking the menu from Ellie he gives it a halfhearted look. He never liked coffee or tea it was always to bitter, until he spied lemon cakes. He has the biggest weakness for desserts and lemon cakes were one of his favorites. As the waitress ask for his order he looks at Ellie. "I hope you have good taste." Turning back to the girl patiently waiting "I'll have whatever she's having, and a lemon cake." A childlike smile glows from his face, he looks back at Ellie noticing how tired she seemed. She ask about his boxing practice, before he could brag she gets sad reminiscing about her father. "We got a lot in common, my ma died when I was twelve, the flu got her. I guess you know more about my father than I do." He tries to comfort her, but he's not sure how. "The marines taught me how to box. During down time we either had to clean guns, read our manuals, or box. I had a lot of down time." He trails off a moment of awkward silence forms and thankfully the waitress brings his order. He nods a thank you and she leaves.
Tommy grabs the cup of tea and sips it, it's bad not just bad absolutely terrible. He tries his best to put on a brave face. "I never had tea until I was in France. Every once in a while they'd let us have some in our rations. When we were in the trenches with the British, I would always trade my tea for their chocolate." He takes a bite of his lemon cake that childish smile comes back, it has been forever since he even thought about getting a dessert let alone tasting one. " This is the cat's meow. I haven't had something this good in forever." He cuts it in half and places it on a plate and slides it to Ellie. "Here have some." He smiles at her offering his plate. "I'll pay for it ma wouldn't let me have a sweet lady like you pay for me." He continues with a sigh thinking back to what happened not an hour ago. "It's been an interesting day. I saw the prettiest girl in the world. Met the family I never knew I had until a few months ago, one of them wants me gone, the other wants to rake me over hot coals first. I'll let you decide which one is which." He smiles a half smile just a little bit of venting has made him feel a lot better. "Then some punk kid, puts an ice pick to my sisters throat, and I got in a fight I shouldn't have." His voice trails off a bit the tiredness returns. "Not bad for my second day in Chicago don't you think? Sorry I'm talking too much, I guess I got a lot of talk about." He smiles at Ellie hoping he doesn't dominate the conversation too much.
