So help me out here guys. Our party is currently in the astral plane, seeking a library with the answer to save my Bard from their soul being trapped.
We've come across the door to what is likely the place, but it is locked. Our sorcerer worked out the strange message engraved onto it and we found out it's a riddle. Oh and we need to fight a lich and a bunch of sword wraiths while we figure it out. Here's the riddle.
There's two statues on either side of the door. To the left, a young boy with a smile and rather common clothes. To the right, an old man in robes and holding a staff, a grumpy scowl on his face. The door told us this:
"Knowledge is the providence of the just and righteous. Bring justice to these fellows.
The body is a noble man murdered. He is the father of the boy, the son of the old man. It is known the noble man abused the boy.
The boy is known to be sweet and righteous, but his only alibi is that he was alone and sleeping.
The old man is known for his cruelty and temper, but his alibi is another noble and good friend of his who vouch for his whereabouts.
Who should be sent to the gallows?"

This riddle doesn't really give you anything to work with. Is there anything in the room that gives more context? As it stands you're just taking a guess. Condemning either man with this little information isn't just.

Nothing other than the body was shown to us inbetween the statues. The answer could very much be that. It never said we *must* send somebody to the gallows, only asking us who

Rather a guilty person go free than a innocent hang I guess. That's the only reasonable answer given the context of the situation.

Just having to ask around make that riddle horrendously horrible to solve. Both myself and my char can't even solve that it.

In other news, we did a one shot last night. We took the gm off guard after my barb saved a random npc from a ship wreck, gave her a weapon for self defence and the entire group ended up protecting her in combat like she was royalty

You took a Lizardfolk Barbarian's food. You're lucky you walked away un-smashed
