A Relay is an RP in which each writer hands off the story to the next writer. Simple right?
This is my favourite type of RP because it's by far the most difficult but most rewarding type, why is what I'll get to below.
The trick to a relay is trusting one another to carry on a 'complete' story with multiple writers. Relay's are very specifically structured with a few rules to keep it together.
1.Relays are stories that are co-authored between several users. Each user's post should, theoretically have at least a page's worth of words (put it in a word program, if it fills up a page, you're good to go.) Any shorter and you're not doing the story justice.
2. Spelling and Grammar do apply
It should be common sense, seeing that this is a forum for co-authored stories, but still. If you're going to post here, you better make sure you're not using netspeak or mystipyng every ohter word u rite. It's painful to read and it only lowers the quality of the Relay forum. I'm not asking to grammar-nazi your posts, but c'mon, this isn't a chat, you have time to proof-read.
3. Ask before WorldBreaking
Relays are a bit more lenient about character controlling. After all, it's a co-authored project. However! If you're going to change the story in a drastic way, or do something that you don't know that another user's character would actually do... please ask the user of that character and/or the original author of the thread if you can do what you wanted to do.
4. Relays can be slow
Relays are not like the hetic hustle-and-bustle of the LARP forum. Relays are longer and more in-depth, therefore it's longer between posts. A couple of days is a normal wait, what with everyone's schedules and whatnot.
5. Finish what you Start
I'm so guilty of breaking this rule, and usually, this rule will be a lax one. We all have real lives after all that steal us away and sometimes, Inspiration dies. Try to keep the relays you've joined alive. If you need to bow out, tell someone so they can take over/write out your character
6.Establish a Posting order
The order in which you post should remain the same, if there are three writers 1. posts then 2 and then 3 followed by 1 again. Do not post out of order to maintain some semblance of orginization.
7.Do not GOD MOD!!
Your character should not be all powerful all knowing and untouchable; it will almost always end the game prematurely as it takes away from experience with other players.
