"No, no, it's not like that at all. Quite different, in fact. While "insane" is the individual losing their grip on reality, the act of going "unsane" is reality losing its grip on the individual." -Dr. Langhorne, during the 43rd meeting of the D.R.E.A.M Collective.
Title: Reality Construct/Going Unsane/(?)
Description: All over the world, people are behaving in increasingly strange ways, to the point where their close families believe they aren't even the same person. These individuals soon grow violent, and must be contained in increasingly-crowded mental facilities. Officially, its being classified as a Mental Health Crisis, but a select few know the truth. Underneath the realm of consciousness lies a plane as obscure and alien as Carcosa, and perhaps even more deadly. People are being drawn into it, their bodies being replaced by a puppet that merely appears to be the person it replaced. Indeed, even a cursory observation will reveal its actions to be so far outside logic that it could only be considered human by appearance alone. Meanwhile, the people who get forcibly put into the veritable purgatory find their bodies twisted beyond recognition, their darkest secrets and primary personality traits becoming their outward appearance. That is, someone who is withdrawn and keeps others at a distance may find themselves projecting a force field that blasts anyone within a certain radius away, or someone with an iron will and boundless determination may find themselves made of steel. The dimension itself begins as a paperthin facsimile of reality where the slightest gust of logic may blow the facade away, and no one is exactly certain what lies beneath,as accounts vary. There are other creatures there as well, but their descriptions reach far beyond what can be described in this paragraph.
You will play as a group of individuals who entered here by random chance, force, or some other means. However, you all have the unique ability to travel between the two worlds, though your control over this is tenuous at best. Brought together by unusual circumstances, you will work with the other players to explore this new realm and go deeper into it in order to discover its purpose (if it indeed has one), find a way to help the people trapped, or destroy it altogether.
Setting: 1920s America. Nondescript town where all the buildings look the same and no one knows anyone else's name. Though most of your time will be spent exploring the various layers of the other side. Upper layers will be similar to cities of that time period with slight differences that lend itself to a feeling of being "off". Lower layers ditch the cityscape altogether, adopting far more esoteric environments.
Genre: Dark fantasy with dreamlike qualities. Moments of levity sprinkled in like basil in a thick soup.
Requirements: Ideally a group of four characters, perhaps less, that have an open mind and are willing to engage in this roleplay with me. Your created characters should be relatively normal, flawed individuals. Note that their traits will become their powers in the alternate dimension. We can work together to determine what your character turns into when they enter.
Limits: No absurdly powerful characters. In terms of mutations, whatever you can handle being portrayed I can handle.
Additionally, note that this RP may delve into some particularly nasty territory, as its primary themes revolve around the dark secrets a person has, as well as the nature of humanity (truly, my hubris knows no bounds).
Slots Available:4
Thank you for your time, and please let me know if this idea interests you, or what I could fix to potentially make it better!
