The Old Empire and The 6 Colonies
At the beginning there was a species whose name had been lost to the ages. This species was unified into one huge empire which historians called The Old Empire. They were brilliant, with grand strides in science and medicine. However one day the empire began to crumble over an unkown cause. Eventually the arguments turned to battles and the battles turned to wars. Eventually the empire split into 6 colonies.
Each colony had different focuses and laws. So long were they split as an empire the species began to split as well. Each colony evolved to get new abilities that fit with their purpose. For example one colony, also known as the Machinalax, were excellent scientists and inventors. Their cities were pinnacles of technology. So much so, that they put implants in their whole body to control and manipulate it. However these abilities varied, some were powerful and some were weak. The strongest are called Technomancers. These Technomancers were treated like royalty, though some weren't due to... disagreements with the leaders of the colony ( Hint hint... Renic...hint...hint). They are sent away to be trained as scouts and spies and security for the colony. Others are scientists, doctors etc.
Although the colonies may not agree on much, they all agree on one thing. That they should never reveal their existance to any other inhabitant of Eden. This was due to the fact that in their split form, they could not defend well enough and that inbreeding could cause a loss of their abilities. However some citizens and some Technomancers disagreed with this, hoping that they could share their knowledge of technology with others.
The Machinalax are, genetically speaking, extremely intelligent and very quick thinking. Although not built for stamina and strength, Technomancers are rigorously traned in all physical movements and attacks. However, their quick thinking causes them to make irrational decisions. This causes some rather stupid decisions to be made under pressure.
