(OOC Pendrake is an NPC I created that is the biggest expert on mythical creatures ((extraordinary zoology)) in the world. If any of you want to add monsters or whatever to the carrot RP feel free to use this thread and Pendrake himself to flesh them out.)
My name is Professor Viktor Pendrake I am the world’s foremost expert in extraordinary zoology. I have compiled my life’s work below, in this ‘Monsternomicon’ as some of my peers have referred to it. I have gathered the most expansive and detailed recollection of monsters that science has ever known. In these pages are my personal firsthand accounts of every creature I’ve encountered in my travels.
Before that I would like to take a moment to thank all of those who followed me into the dark, but didn’t make it back. These brave souls whether they adventure for coin, fame, or knowledge gave the ultimate sacrifice to better educate the world. For this I and everyone who reads this owe you a personal thank you.
A year ago, I was travelling through the swamps of Farron few researchers have gone deep into these untamed lands, I had heard legends of a new species of troll that lurked in the swamps. So, I hired an exploration team and headed out immediately. I feel it important to state that while Farron is known as a harsh land, and for good reason. A week into our trip, and only three of us remained. With our cartographer gone we had no sense of direction, half-starved we carried on until only I still lived.
As I fell into the muck of this land I will admit I thought my life was over, I heard the intense howl of a creature coming towards me. A miracle soon followed for I heard spoken langue, though the tongue was crude in harsh it was definitely human in origin. I found myself surrounded by a tribe of Farron, they debated for a while most likely bout what to do with me until a soft voice spoke up. A small man approached he looked no more than fifteen, his hair black hair cut into a mohawk, his clothing similar to his companion’s leather straps with pieces of bone crafted into makeshift armor.
The others silenced themselves when the smaller man approached, he walked with the stride of a leader, I quickly ascertained that even though he was small in size he must be their chieftain. The young man approached me with a warm smile on his face he pulled on one of my ears with a child like curiosity. I informed him I was a High Elf, but his face became twisted in confused.
He pointed at me and said in a broken at best use of the Imperial tongue. “High Elf?” I nodded to answer his question, he points at himself and said. “Domri. Domri Rade.” Domri offered a hand and I took it helping myself up, I tried to explain why I was here though most of the words fell flat, the language barrier was hard to break, but I was determined to try. I grabbed one of my books and showed him pictures of beast I have found, his face began to glow with the excitement of a child on its name day a moment before receiving their presents. He flipped through the book and stopped at the page dedicated to the Common Argus, almost jumping for joy he whistled loudly I heard barks come closer and closer until the beast were upon me. It seemed in the drier areas of the swamp they too had a breed of Argus though these were much different than any I have encountered. I was invited back to their village in what I believe to be the first exchange of knowledge any outside force has had with these people.
