Renic sat there for a good fifteen minutes, just thinking. He hadn't thought about what his hack had done to it he AI- her. He could tell from his camera that they had left, presumably to their base. Had he not have had this conversation, he would've tried to follow them. He couldn't bring himself to it for two main reasons:1)He'd probably would've been shot at by the other humans and 2)It didn't feel right to apologize for a hack, only to follow them home. Jocky sat quietly as Renic thought, purring when he sensed Renic's mood.
Slowly, Renic got up. Jocky, delighted that his master had gotten up, moved towards him with glee. Most would look at this as love, but Renic knew what it was. While this was very much love, freerunners hate it when one of their pack is upset, and so they do what ever they can to alleviate their sadness. It worked. Renic petted Jocky, and remembered a game that humans used to play on Earth. "Fetch". It sounds interesting, he thought. So all he had to do was yell fetch while throwing a stick into the far distance, and the creature would retrieve it. Renic picked up a stick and threw it as far as he could. Jocky shot off after it and... Bring it back in under a half minute. Yeah, this is going to be difficult.
Renic's problem, he realized, was that he needed more distance. The obvious solution was to build a catapult. Renic took out various screws, screwdrivers, nuts, bolts and a hammer. He also took a vine off a nearby tree, as Disin trees can grow vines as strong as steel to allow safe passage by Denis, an incredible climber that is a pollinator, and block off routes on the ground for predators. Luckily, the right acid can remove the vine. After twenty minutes or so, the catapult was built. Renic clouded the stick in and... Fire! Jocky ran off after the stick! As for the stick, it found a lovely home in a tree. So much for playing fetch. Renic called over Jocky so they could return home. He had a feeling he was going to have to explain a lot the Director of The Technomancers. Although Renic had a pleasant look on his face, he was stressing over what to say as a cover up. He couldn't going to tell him about the humans, that was for sure. He meant it when he sad that his colony would rather send a nuke than talk diplomatically. As he thought about various coverups, Renic and Jocky made their way home.
